Siddhars

Siddhars are saints in India, mostly of the Saivaite denomination in Tamil Nadu, who professed and practised an unorthodox type of Sadhana, or spiritual practice, to attain liberation. Yogic powers called Siddhis are acquired by constant practice of certain yogic disciplines. Those who acquire these Siddhis are called Siddhas.

SathuraGiri – Origin

One day Lord Shiva, disguised as a Sivanadiyar (Devotee of Siva) came to a temple situated in an area close to present day SathuraGiri, and struck conversation with the priest on the origins of the temple. The priest replied that the temple is eons old and the land on which the temple is, belongs to a wealthy landlord and he (the priest) takes care of the temple.
